Previously, I posted a beginner's guide for Kayou Naruto and a deep dive into Series 2 (feel free to check those out on my profile). Since these are the only two sets currently available in the NA version, I figured it’s time to break down Series 1: Heaven Scroll.

As the debut of the "New Ninja Way" theme, Series 1 set the visual foundation for the entire collection. No matter how many new sets we get in the future, its historical significance is untouchable. Even though it lacks numbered cards, only features one PR, and has the smallest variety of rarities, Series 1 remains an essential cornerstone for any NA collector. You simply can't complete the journey without it. That said, if you’re just a casual collector or looking for ROI, Series 1 isn't it.

According to the official site, Series 1 comes in two configurations: a 24-pack box and a 5-pack box (both have 8 cards per pack. Currently, the 24-pack box is what’s most widely available online.).

R & SR (50 types / 20 types) :The R cards feature iconic scenes from the anime, covering Team 7’s early memories and the emotional arc of Zabuza and Haku. As for the SRs, they feature individual character cards from these arcs, including both main and side characters. (Am I the only one who thought Haku was a girl for the longest time? Also, who actually wants a card with a random old man on it? 😂)

SSR (24 types):The SSRs focus on major characters from those same story arcs. Some of the cards can even be pieced together to form a larger scene. Plus, let's be real—who’s turning down a "Sexy Jutsu" Naruto & “1000 Years of Death” Kakashi?

UR (15 types): The URs style, you can basically think of them as solo portrait cards lol. But the best part about Series 1 is that it captures almost all the Konoha genin in their original, Day 1 designs.

PTR (20 types) : I absolutely love the PTR rarity from this set. The cinematic vibe is incredible. So many of the Naruto and Sasuke cards are just on point. It honestly gives me that same rush of excitement I had when I first started watching Naruto back in the day. PU (8 types) : These are puzzle cards with gold foil signatures. The art style is very postcard-esque\*, capturing more of a casual, everyday vibe—think Team 7 or Zabuza and Haku just hanging out at home or camping. These are around $3-$5/card (observed at the time of the original Reddit post) .

MR (6 types) :These feature the same characters but with a Zodiac theme\*, keeping the gold stamps and puzzle art elements. Given that Series 2 MRs also used the Zodiac theme, I really hope Kayou switches things up and brings some fresh creativity to the MR slots in future sets. BP (7 types): The BPs art style blends scroll-themed designs with character-specific elements and signature colors—like the ramen bowl for Naruto. The theme focuses on dream or memory sequences, and the overall design is solid... but seriously, Hiruzen and Konohamaru instead of Zabuza??? Hiruzen or Konohamaru is $30-$40/card (observed at the time of the original Reddit post) The team 7 is around $50-$60/card (observed at the time of the original Reddit post)

SP (4 types) :These feature the same stained glass style seen in the later sets. Since there are no numbered cards or higher rarities, and because Team 7 characters are so popular, the SP cards from Series 1 actually command a higher premium compared to those in Series 2. These are around $30-$60/card (observed at the time of the original Reddit post) . Price-wise, Sakura is generally cheaper.

SE (4 types) : Naruto/Sasuke and Zabuza/Haku—these two are undoubtedly the most popular duos in the set, and their prices are the highest in Series 1. The themes for these two sets are incredibly aesthetic: Zabuza and Haku drifting through a lotus pond, and Naruto and Sasuke sleeping under autumn leaves. There’s such a strong sense of storytelling in the art. Such a poetic vibe. Haku is around $250/card (observed at the time of the original Reddit post) Zabuza is around $500/card (observed at the time of the original Reddit post) Sasuke is around $320/card (observed at the time of the original Reddit post) Naruto is around $600/card (observed at the time of the original Reddit post)

PR (1 type): For the only PR card in Series 1, they actually went with Konan. Maybe it was to pull in some Shippuden elements, but personally, I feel like she lacks the star power to be the very first PR for the set..

And..unfortunately, it looks like the latest restocks of Series 1 boxes no longer include the PR cards. $10-$12/card (observed at the time of the original Reddit post) .

In conclusion, Series 1 definitely lacks some of the bells and whistles of later sets, but as the first NA release, it perfectly captures the initial joy and emotion of the Naruto anime. Thinking about where the story goes later, little Naruto and Sasuke were just so wholesome...

From a value perspective, I’d buy this set just to complete my Naruto/Sasuke collection. However, looking at the secondary market, most Series 1 prices will likely continue to drop due to new sets releasing and the massive restocks. Also, I don’t expect my PR Konan to go up in value anytime soon, even if she ends up being OOP.
